Meet the new team!

The general character profiles have been released for the new Stargate Universe cast. I've read through them several times and have to say that I'm not really happy with how it's sounding, it all a little 90210 in Space for me.
I'm interested to hear other (younger) people's reactions to this. I'm just praying it'll be well written ...

What guys would that be?
Hopefully more light is shed on this as the actual actors are cast. Thanks for the updated news.

From the looks of the casting, only Everett is going to be someone we already know.
I'm trying to think of any 40-something actors that would be good in a 'Jack O'Neill' type role.

Sounds very.... interesting thats for sure and it WILL be interesting to find out who they cast and such... the only up side i see is that it involves peoples my age-ish, that and of course it apparently has a character we know!

Oooh I didn't see that about a character we already knew! I'll have to go back and reread the article.
It would be nice if there was some form of continuation like that (as in McKay with Stargate to Atlantis).

I think everybody likes O'Neill, but does anybody else think that the franchise should stop trying to clone the poor ol' guy for every new show they do?
It makes it feel like they're stuck in a "If it's not broke, don't fix it" state of mind.
Instead of giving us another Jack O'Neill wannabe why not do something different? Especially for a show which claims to be trying to appeal to a different audience.

It was the one thing that actually surprised me, that the lead character would be 40 something. Obviously I know that someone in a command position would probably have to be older than 20ish (as the rest of the crew) but it did still seem a bit of a leap. After all Cam Mitchell in charge of SG-1 isn't 'meant' to be that old (I believe).
And yes, they should get away from the 'like Jack O'Neill' premise. Admittedly it may be a tried and tested formula (comparisons of John Sheppard to O'Neill were rife at the beginning of Atlantis) but it also sets the show up to be dubbed a 'clone' of Atlantis/SG-1.
When reading through the character list it did grind that everyone was 'like' this or 'like' that ... even if it was comparing to a character from another film/tv show.
Stargate was groundbreaking and should stay that way.

[looks left, looks right, looks behind] Where's my air-sick bag?!
I agree with the consensus so far - we do NOT need a clone of Jack [inner voice screaming - that's MY job, for cryin out loud!]. I just hope they don't twist him into a Ronson [think Season 6, Memento, 'there is no redundancy for that system...'] after reading all the comments.
And I don't want this to be a "soap opera in space" - if I wanted that I'd call Susan Lucci's agent and have her do something with NASA and then have her divorce them!
As for Tamara Jon - I wonder if Grace Park will audition. I know she was on the series before...but it might bring over some BG fans to our side!
Chloe Carpenter?! This character should be taken to an airlock...open, shove/push, close airlock.
As for Ron 'Psycho' Stasiak...hmmm, either this character will develop and grow, or be a Worf-ish comic relief. I'm just thinking wild here on this point...don't read into it too much. LOL
Now...why do all these people need to be handsome and pretty and sexy? What about good writing and in depth story lines?!
Seriously...where IS that air sick bag?!

One more thing...I like how they said Young is like "the O'Neill of 10 years ago'.
Folks, if I want the O'Neill of 10 years ago I will load my DVD player with season 1!
That's O'Neill - with TWO L's!!!
